The injection bonded SmCo magnets (injection molded magnets) have a high mechanical strength and may be molded together with other matching parts. In all injection molded magnets, bonded SmCo magnet is produced with high efficiency, stability and repeatability; Magnet and other part may form together in one step. Injection bonded Samarium Cobalt magnet is a kind of functional material. It is unsuitable for structure part design. So the usual requirement to the tolerance of the dimensions for structure part is not applicable to it. Injection bonded Samarium Cobalt magnet has strong anticorrosion function. So it needn't the same surface treatment as that of NdFeB magnet.
An important characteristic of injection molded magnets is that they conform dimensionally to the mold cavity which is precisely machined, the result being close tolerances in the finished product. What little dimensional variability there is results from shrinkage of the polymer during cooling. This depends upon part thickness and shape.
Injection molded magnets can be of very simple shapes or very complex. All or only part of the device may be magnetized. It is sometimes cost advantageous to make an entire part out of the magnet material and just magnetize the portion requiring magnetic output.
